Radical Honesty Isn’t Pretty

Radical Honesty Isn’t Pretty (And That’s the Point)

It isn’t organized, and it doesn’t exist to make you comfortable.

We don’t struggle with honesty, we struggle with letting go of control.

Everything that makes you, or anyone else, do what they do, be who they are, isn’t meant to be explained away. Yet somehow, we love the phrase “Oh, I had no idea,” while spending years trying to explain, justify, fix, or soften the very truths we didn’t want to see in the first place. Accepting people as they are is far more difficult than we like to admit.

Instead, we start noticing patterns, habits, characteristics, and then we quietly, unconsciously, begin introducing our beliefs as the better explanation. You must have done this because of that. No. I did it because I wanted to.

Radical honesty isn’t pretty. It isn’t organized. It’s not filed in a labelled box that makes everyone feel safe. It’s wild, unfiltered truth and it’s shocking to those who have spent a lifetime appearing put together. Performing perfection. Creating comfort. Pushing away anything that exists outside the world they’ve carefully constructed.

Life shatters that comfort eventually. Reality always does. And just like life itself, there are people who live in raw honesty, irritating to those who need a reason for why someone is who they are. As if identity requires permission. As if truth needs a backstory that feels palatable. Sometimes the core truth is simply this; They wanted to do what they wanted to do. Say what they wanted to say. Be who they are…without hiding.

But we’ve been conditioned to package ourselves. To soften edges. To constantly annoy the hell out of ourselves (and others) by trying to change the person, the conversation, or the energy.

Because unpredictability is uncomfortable. A person with no mask, no agenda, and nothing to hide is unsettling.

You might believe you’re that person… until you actually watch how you present yourself depending on the room. Rawness and true acceptance are harder than we tell ourselves. How often have you tried to introduce your “better way”? Explain away the uncomfortable parts? Justify a past version of yourself so others can keep you neatly categorized?

Yes, but they’re not that way now…

That was who I was, not who I am…

Why do we need others to see us a certain way? Why the need to explain a truth instead of simply owning it? Real growth comes from responsibility. From saying, Yes, that was me. From accepting people and ourselves, as they are. And then acting accordingly.

Honesty with self isn’t the hard part. Trying to shape the world and the people around you to fit the lie you may be unintentionally living in, now that’s what is exhausting!

Perspective changes everything. Openness changes everything. And openness doesn’t fit in a box. It doesn’t play the game of noise, distraction, or performance. It doesn’t require keeping a room busy so you feel comfortable in it. Silence and contentment, those are the hardest states to exist in. We think we have to be doing something. Fixing something. Changing someone. Rearranging the furniture of life.

Why? Because maybe we’re not as peaceful, accepting, compassionate, or content as we tell ourselves we are. The ego seeks comfort. Those who move beyond it find contentment…not complacency.

Not shocking. Not fixing. Not entertaining. Just honest. And the more I sit without censoring my soul’s truth, my spirited self, the more I shake my head and laugh. Because once you see it… You really can’t unsee it.

The truth of the matter is built in the fabrics of our world. Life often presents the reality of comfort more than truth, and sometimes that’s totally the safest way we can exist. We tell kids to always tell the truth while we live in a world filled in half-hearted truths and lies. Is it okay? I don’t know, but… all is available to see for those who truly want to see the unmasked version of our existence. So I guess in the end… it’s more about acceptance than it is about honesty. We are all here finding our way.

Creating a beautiful life is my only way!

Nice to meet you! I am the founder/creator of the More Than Existing™️ brand, books, and self-actualization coaching program. My ‘why’ to the work, is to share my stories and gifts in the hope that others may discover that they are so much more than the stories, fears, and insecurities. To become loyal to the longest relationship you will ever have, the relationship with you. As I often share with others, "If you could see what I can see you would never doubt you again!”

I am a woman with a passionate heart, blended in diversity and love, with a belief that the truest of you is waiting to be discovered when you take the journey inward to discover the divine within.

I may never be the right fit for the world, but I finally belong in my world, and I open my heart to invite in more love each and every day.

Much love, Corrie
