Paint Her Beautiful
This image began as a painting, not an AI image or a digital creation. It was a painting. My painting. Not from tracing an image or a paint-by-numbers, but through trust, listening to the inspiration and the negative thoughts. By seeing what was not visible and bringing it into an image.
It became a remembering, one brushstroke at a time, by a woman who was learning to see herself differently.
Yesterday, I went down a rabbit hole with digital creation. I transformed it digitally into what you see here, but the heart of this piece began on canvas, in the same way many transformations begin: messy, uncertain, and not yet fully visible.
As I was working on this piece today, I couldnât help but think about Chiron and the journey myself and many others have been on since 2018, when Chiron entered Aries. In astrology, Chiron is known as the Wounded Healer. For the past eight years, Chiron has been travelling through Aries, asking many of us a relentless question:
Who are you when you stop trying to become someone else? Who are you beneath the roles, responsibilities, expectations, fears, wounds, and stories youâve carried for years? And so much more, of course.
Now Chiron sits at 29 degrees Aries, the final degree before a new chapter begins. I find myself standing there too. At an ending and at a threshold.
Because while Chiron prepares to leave Aries and eventually move into Taurus, something else is beginning to come alive in my world. Paint Me BeautifulŠ. A project that has lived quietly in my heart for years. A series of paintings. A series of women and images, a series of stories that have been collecting dust. A series I had been telling myself was not good enough because I am not a painter. But I guess... I was also not a writer, yet somehow I have published four books during this eight-year journey.
A series that was a psychological healing of learning to see myself in the same way I spend my life helping other women see themselves. Now, a series of women learning to see themselves differently. Because thatâs my biggest calling in life: to teach through sharing stories.
Paint Me BeautifulŠ for women learning to look beyond the reflection created by criticism, comparison, rejection, expectations, and self-judgement. Women remembering who they were before life convinced them they were anything less.
Funny enough, the voice that started this whole series wasnât speaking to the women I was painting; it was speaking to me âPaint her beautiful.â At first, I thought it meant the painting. Now I know it meant the painter.
Maybe thatâs what this season has been about all along. Itâs not about becoming someone new. It's about remembering who we were before someone elseâs thoughts and beliefs, spoken out loud, became the beliefs we held about ourselves. And if youâre standing at a threshold of your own right now, wondering whatâs next, perhaps you donât need to see the whole path. Perhaps you only need enough light for the next step. The path for you is not crowded when you decide to stop trying to be and begin to allow...
What have you been resisting, avoiding, or hiding since 2018?
Sit down and take a good look at the woman at the end of every difficult decision, and you will see a successful woman. A woman whose success may not make her famous, but made her truly matter.
