The Space Between Seasons
Transitioning from Cancer into Leo Season
Cancer energy is often described as soft, emotional and nurturing, but in my personal experience, it carries far more strength and movement than we sometimes give it credit for.
Cancer is a cardinal sign, sharing that initiating energy with Aries, Libra and Capricorn. It wants to do something with what it feels. It wants to protect, provide, gather everyone close, make things better and ensure that what matters is cared for.
In its light, Cancer is love expressed through presence. It nourishes the soul, creates safety and reminds us that rest is not an absence of movement—it is part of what allows life to continue growing.
In its shadow, however, Cancer can become the bossy mother who insists she knows what everyone needs. It can overprotect, overmanage and keep moving long after the body has asked to be held. It can turn nurturing into responsibility and responsibility into another reason we do not allow ourselves to rest.
Perhaps this is why July can feel so contradictory. It is considered holiday season, a time when we are supposed to relax, yet it is often filled with travelling, visiting, gardening, gatherings, projects and the pressure to make the most of every beautiful day. We are resting, but somehow we are also very busy accomplishing our rest.
Then comes Leo, carrying the warmth of fire and the desire to participate more fully in life. Everything is blooming, the days are still long, and there is an invitation to come out of the emotional waters of Cancer and let ourselves be seen again.
But Leo energy can also tempt us to get ahead of ourselves. Before July is even finished, we begin talking about fall. Before the flowers have completed their blooming, we are preparing for everything that will eventually die back. We start organizing the next season before we have fully lived the one standing directly in front of us.
The energy moving through us now may be asking us not to miss these moments.
We will never see this particular July again. We will never stand inside this exact version of our lives again. Even the difficult days are passing through a doorway that will eventually close behind them.
July may have been a handful. There may have been emotions to tend, truths to acknowledge and parts of ourselves that needed more care than we expected. But perhaps August is not asking us to abandon any of that and rush toward something new. Perhaps it is inviting us to come together within ourselves and ask:
Have I stayed close to my truth?
Have I allowed pride to convince me that I must already know what happens next?
What might this moment provide if I stopped trying to hurry it into becoming another moment?
There is something else here that feels important.
One of the hardest things to help others understand is the why beneath their habits. We are often taught to treat habits as irritating behaviours that must be controlled, broken or replaced, but many habits are repetitive attempts to find relief from something that continues to return.
If the original need had been met, the habit might no longer be necessary.
If the wound felt safe enough to heal, the pattern might begin releasing its grip without requiring another battle against ourselves.
This does not mean every habit should be excused or allowed to continue harming us. It means that lasting change requires more than demanding different behaviour. We have to become willing to recognize what the behaviour has been trying to provide. Comfort, safety, control, belonging, or is it relief? Possibly a momentary escape from the pressure of being ourselves.
Perhaps this transition from Cancer into Leo is asking us to bring love to what we have been trying to discipline out of ourselves. Not indulgence. Not avoidance. Love with enough courage to tell the truth.
Cancer reminds us to nurture what is hurting. Leo reminds us not to become ashamed of what we discover. Together, they invite us to remain present long enough to understand the life we are living before we rush toward the person we believe we should become next.
Do not miss this moment by preparing too quickly for its ending.
There is still something here for you.
Much love,
