The Medicine of Kindness, Truth and Dignity
“Kindness without dignity becomes appeasement. Truth without dignity becomes cruelty. The medicine lives somewhere between the two.”
~ Corrie Thorne-Cameron
The medicine to being treated unkindly is not found in becoming kinder and doing everything you possibly can in the hope of making someone else become kinder to you. No…
The medicine for unkindness is not in convincing yourself to become more of what you wished others would be. It is not found in abandoning yourself to earn the kindness you crave. The invitation becomes to embody the very person you keep wishing would appear in your life.
Kindness cannot be defined by the mind’s ability to create expectations of how others should behave. Yet strangely, being unkind to ourselves is often accepted as the normal price we pay for self-preservation. That is not the medicine either.
The medicine goes deeper than collecting words that validate your convictions or prove you were right all along. Perhaps the medicine is dignity. The willingness to honour your own humanity without needing to diminish someone else’s.
Kindness does not always feel nice. Kindness is honesty delivered with dignity. Kindness is truth spoken without the intention of diminishing another person’s humanity.
Sometimes kindness still hurts. Sometimes it asks us to face what we would rather avoid. Sometimes it requires structures that doesn’t provide automatic access, endings, accountability, and difficult conversations. But kindness is not designed to shred the fibres of someone’s existence. Its purpose is not destruction. Its purpose is transformation. It may not always be received the way you wish but that’s how honesty and truth work, it’s not here to appease us but to align us with living in truth and not unobtainable standards.
Kindness without dignity becomes appeasement and truth without dignity becomes cruelty. The medicine lives somewhere between the two. Dignity allows kindness and truth to sit at the same table without either becoming distorted. It allows us to say no without punishment. To speak honestly without humiliation and to walk away without hatred or to stay without abandoning ourselves.
True kindness has the ability to interrupt patterns, challenge habits, and invite growth while still honouring the dignity of the person standing before us. And perhaps the deepest form of kindness is learning that you do not need to become smaller, quieter, nicer, or more accommodating to deserve it. Because kindness is not self-sacrifice and dignity is not selfishness. They both are expressions of self-respect. The kind that honours the humanity in others without forgetting your own.

Creating a beautiful life is my only way!
Nice to meet you! I am the founder/creator of the More Than Existing™️ brand, books, and self-actualization coaching program. My ‘why’ to the work, is to share my stories and gifts in the hope that others may discover that they are so much more than the stories, fears, and insecurities. To become loyal to the longest relationship you will ever have, the relationship with you. As I often share with others, "If you could see what I can see you would never doubt you again!”
I am a woman with a passionate heart, blended in diversity and love, with a belief that the truest of you is waiting to be discovered when you take the journey inward to discover the divine within.
I may never be the right fit for the world, but I finally belong in my world, and I open my heart to invite in more love each and every day.
Much love, Corrie
