Peace That Doesn’t Need Explaining
I woke this morning to a crashing noise and cats scattering everywhere. As I stumbled out of bed to investigate, there it was—the cat’s water dish upside down, water everywhere.
What a way to start the morning, I thought.
I cleaned it up and moved into my regular routine, but something shifted when I stepped outside with little Jazzy.
The world was wrapped in fog.
Everything white and misty—but not empty. It felt as if I was being held.
The air carried a cool, damp softness, the kind that leaves your skin dewy. Each breath felt fuller, slower, like the world itself had exhaled and decided not to rush the next inhale. I could feel my nervous system settling.
Sound didn’t travel the same. It was muted, as though everything unnecessary had been intentionally quieted.
And in that stillness, it didn’t feel cold.
It felt intentional—as if this moment was meant to be witnessed.
As I walked, I caught something darker move across the yard. Then I saw it—a bunny hopping out from behind my garden. No longer white like it had been all winter, but brown. Against all that whiteness, it stood out.
I smiled and stood there watching.
Because there it was—in all that white, something had already changed.
How symbolic, I thought.
It made me think of Good Friday… and this whole weekend, really. The stories we’re told. The ones we pass down. The ones we soften for children—like the Easter bunny.
And then the quieter truths.
The ones that aren’t always wrapped in light.
A whisper moved through me about truth this morning. About how some things are innocent… and some things are not. How not everything true feels good.
And yet—truth has a way of creating peace anyway.
Standing there in the fog, I felt gratitude, sadness, and a quiet kind of joy all at once.
And for a moment,
that was more than enough.
