Expanding Our Emotional Intelligence: Returning to the Truth of Who You Are
The Journey Begins Within
There comes a moment in life when we are asked to look deeper—not just at what we do, but at who we have become.
Emotional intelligence is not simply about managing emotions. It is about understanding where those emotions come from, how they were formed, and how they continue to shape our reality.
My work as a spiritual-emotional consultant, medium, and healer has shown me that everything we experience in our daily lives is connected. There is no separation between our spiritual awareness and our human experience. The way we think, feel, react, and relate to others is all part of one interconnected system.
And to truly grow, we must be willing to go beyond the surface.
The Masks We Learn to Wear
From a young age, we are taught how to be.
We learn to smile when we don’t feel like it.
We learn to perform, to please, to adapt.
We learn that who we truly are may not be acceptable.
Over time, this becomes a mask.
What begins as protection turns into identity. And eventually, we forget how to take it off.
We become the role we were taught to play—until we no longer know who we are beneath it.
For many, emotional immaturity isn’t about lack of intelligence—it’s about where growth stopped. It’s the moment fear replaced curiosity, and protection replaced authenticity.
Where Growth Gets Stunted
Emotional and spiritual immaturity often trace back to a point in time where something felt unsafe, overwhelming, or unresolved.
This can happen early—often before we even have the language to understand it.
Between the womb and early childhood, we begin forming beliefs about ourselves:
Who we are
What we’re worth
How we must behave to be loved or accepted
These beliefs don’t disappear.
They become stored in the body.
And from there, they quietly shape our lives.
The Stories We Continue to Feed
One of the most powerful questions we can ask ourselves is:
Can I tell my story without being emotionally triggered by it?
If the answer is no, then the story is still active within you.
We often revisit the past—not to heal it—but to reinforce it.
We feed it with our attention, our emotions, and our identity.
And in doing so, we stay connected to versions of ourselves that no longer serve us.
You cannot create a new life while continuing to live inside an old story.
The Illusion of Reaction
Many of the patterns we experience—anxiety, overreaction, self-doubt—are not random.
They are responses rooted in past emotional imprints.
The need to please
The fear of failure
The habit of overgiving
The cycle of “inflated and deflated” motivation
These are not flaws.
They are signals.
They show us where emotional energy is still stored and waiting to be acknowledged.
Letting Go: What It Really Means
“Let it go” is often said—but rarely understood.
Letting go is not forcing yourself to move on.
It is not suppressing emotion or denying your past.
Letting go is:
Releasing the emotional charge attached to an experience
Allowing the body to process what it never could before
Choosing not to feed the same story again
It begins with awareness:
What am I afraid of feeling?
What part of me is still holding on?
And instead of judgment, we meet that part with compassion.
The Power of Self-Awareness
Emotional intelligence deepens when we stop looking outward for answers and begin looking inward.
Not to blame.
Not to shame.
But to understand.
When we observe the world—how people react, attack, defend—we begin to recognize those same patterns within ourselves.
And that awareness becomes power.
Because once you can see it, you can choose differently.
Returning to Your Original Self
At your core, beneath all conditioning, stories, and identities—there is an original version of you.
A pure operating system.
Unfiltered.
Unprogrammed.
Untouched by fear.
Growth is not about becoming someone new.
It is about returning to who you were before the world told you who to be.
This requires:
Releasing false identities
Letting go of who you thought you had to become
Trusting your inner intelligence
The Courage to Evolve
True emotional maturity asks something of us:
Courage.
The courage to:
Question our own patterns
Face uncomfortable truths
Release what once felt like safety
It may require letting go of relationships, habits, or beliefs that keep us anchored in the past.
But on the other side of that release is freedom.
From Survival to Creation
There comes a point when we are no longer here to survive.
We are here to create.
To lead.
To embody truth.
To live with intention instead of reaction.
This is where emotional intelligence becomes transformation.
Not just understanding your emotions—but no longer being controlled by them.
A Question to Begin
If there is one place to start, let it be here:
Why me?
Not as a dismissal.
Not as a deflection.
But as a genuine inquiry into your life, your patterns, your experiences.
Let the answers come honestly.
Let them come without judgment.
Because within those answers is the path back to you.
A New Way Forward
You are not your past.
You are not your patterns.
You are not the stories you’ve been telling yourself.
You are the awareness behind them.
And when you begin to release the emotional attachments that have held you hostage, something shifts.
Clarity returns.
Confidence rises.
Truth becomes accessible.
And from there—you begin again.
Closing Reflection
Emotional intelligence is not something you achieve.
It is something you practice.
Each moment is an opportunity to:
Choose awareness over reaction
Choose truth over story
Choose growth over comfort
And in doing so, you don’t just change your life.
You change the way you experience being alive.

Nice to meet you! I am the founder/creator of the More Than Existing™️ brand, books, and self-actualization coaching program. My ‘why’ to the work, is to share my stories and gifts in the hope that others may discover that they are so much more than the stories, fears, and insecurities. To become loyal to the longest relationship you will ever have, the relationship with you. As I often share with others, "If you could see what I can see you would never doubt you again!”
I am a woman with a passionate heart, blended in diversity and love, with a belief that the truest of you is waiting to be discovered when you take the journey inward to discover the divine within.
I may never be the right fit for the world, but I finally belong in my world, and I open my heart to invite in more love each and every day.
